Cook Eat Nourish Podcast

Dec 3, 2022

Today’s episode is Siobhan Dee, founder of The Diabetes Department. https://thediabetesdept.com/

Siobhan Dee worked as a nurse and a business development director in the pharmaceutical industry for 25 years before setting up her own business to do what she felt is missing in modern treatment of disease. Siobhan is passionate about the value of lifestyle science which needs to be taught to everyone who may be at risk or suffering from a chronic disease. She is especially passionate about Type 2 diabetes and has helped many people toreverse it. The Diabetes Dept. runs 6 & 12 month programmes through their Ignition Go app in organisations that genuinely want to help their workforce feel healthier and happier. They have nutritionists, psychologists and lifestyle medicine coaches & doctors as associates and work closely with wellbeing teams in the companies in which they work. They are especially interested in helping companies with work forces of 40+ year olds and shift workers.

We started talking about the difference between diabetes Type 1 and Type 2.  We then spoke about her exciting new app, Ignition Go being rolled out in workplaces across Ireland as well as the challenges of shift work.  We could have talked all day!

Siobhan’s top 3 tips are

  1. Celebrate everything – this is part of self care and the secret sauce in life.
  2. Food: Forget about counting calories, count vegetables and berries instead!
  3. Be mindful when eating, be curious
